The Secretary-General of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to inform him of the receipt, on November 23, 1981, of the notification of the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium, dated November 19, 1981, made pursuant to Article 34(2) of the International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants of December 2, 1961, as revised at Geneva on November 10, 1972, and on October 23, 1978 (hereinafter referred to as "the 1978 Act"), that the Kingdom of Belgium will apply the Convention of 1961 as amended by the Additional Act of 1972 in its relations with any State bound by the 1978 Act which becomes a member State of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants through ratification, acceptance or approval of or accession to the 1978 Act.
As provided by Article 34(2) of the 1978 Act, the effect of the said notification is that, as from the beginning of the month after the date of the said notification, that is, as from December 19, 1981, and until the entry into force of the 1978 Act with respect to the Kingdom of Belgium, the latter will apply the Convention of 1961 as amended by the Additional Act of 1972 in its relations with any State bound by the 1978 Act which becomes a member of the Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants through ratification, acceptance or approval of or accession to the 1978 Act, whereas any such State will apply the 1978 Act in its relations with the Kingdom of Belgium.
