Details Details Year of Version 2000 Dates Entry into force: June 5, 2000 Adopted: December 7, 1999 Type of Text Main IP Laws Subject Matter Patents (Inventions), Utility Models, Industrial Designs, Trademarks, Geographical Indications, Layout Designs of Integrated Circuits, Enforcement of IP and Related Laws, Industrial Property Notes The Industrial Property Code (also called the “Legal Regime of Industrial Property”) is approved by the Decree-Law No. 97/99/M of December 13, 1999, and published as an annex to this Decree-Law.
The Industrial Property Code governs the protection of patents, plant variety protection, layout-designs (topographies) of integrated circuits, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, names and badges of the establishment, designations of origin and geographical indications, and rewards.

According to Article 6 of this Decree-Law, the following laws shall be repealed:
-Industrial Property Code ('Legal Regime of Industrial Property' approved by Decree-Law No. 16/95 of September 4, 1995);
-Decree-Law No. 56/95/M of November 6, 1995, on the Protection of Trademarks;
-Governor's Decision No. 306/95/M of December 4, 1995, establishing Trademarks Registration Fees.

Article 7 of the Decree-Law approving the Industrial Property Code stipulates that it shall enter into effect on the date of publication of the Dispatch No. 87/2000 of the Chief Executive of June 5, 2000, on Fees, issued pursuant to Article 37 of the Industrial Property Code.
The Dispatch was published on June 5, 2000, which brought the Decree-Law No. 97/99 of December 13, 1999, and the Industrial Property Code, into force on the same date. It has later been repealed by Dispatch No. 57/2005 of the Chief Executive of March 14, 2005, on Fees specified in Article 37 of the Industrial Property Code.
