The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 74 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 19881 ("the Act"), and upon being satisfied that the body designated by this Order is not established or conducted for profit, hereby makes the following Order:-

1. This Order may be cited as the Copyright (Sub-titling of Broadcasts and Cable Programmes) (Designated Body) Order 1989 and shall come into force on 1st August 1989.
2. The National Subtitling Library for Deaf People is designated as a body for the purposes of section 74 of the Act.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

The Order designates the National Subtitling Library for Deaf People for the purposes of section 74 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 to enable that body to issue copies of sub-titled broadcasts and cable programmes for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
