Details Details Year of Version 2018 Dates Commenced: October 1, 2018 Published: February 2, 2018 Assented: January 24, 2018 Type of Text Main IP Laws Subject Matter Trademarks, Geographical Indications Subject Matter (secondary) Competition, Trade Names, IP Regulatory Body Notes The Trademarks Act, 2018 (Act No. 2 of 2018) was passed by the Parliament and assented to by the President on January 24, 2018. The Act was published in the Malawi Government Gazette on February 2, 2018 and shall come into force on a date appointed by the Minister by notice published in the Gazette.

The Act entered into force on October 24, 2018, in accordance to the Notice of Commencement, which was published in the Malawi Gazette Supplement.
The Act repealed the existing Trade Marks Act, 1957 (Chapter 49:01).
