Details Details Year of Version 2025 Dates Amended up to: May 30, 2025 Commenced: September 16, 1872 Type of Text Framework Laws Subject Matter Enforcement of IP and Related Laws Notes This consolidated version of the Penal Code 1871 incorporates all amendments up to the Immigration (Amendment) Act 2023, which entered into force on different dates: December 31, 2024, May 30, 2025, and July 31, 2025. The amending Act introduced the following amendments in force on May 30, 2025:
- Section 77 deletes section 226 of the Penal Code 1871.
- Section 65(c) of the Criminal Procedure Code 2010 updates the First Schedule so that the reference to section 226 of the Penal Code 1871 now applies to the version in force immediately before section 77 of the Immigration (Amendment) Act 2023.
Sections 475 and 476 of the consolidated version of Penal Code 1871 criminalize the counterfeiting of marks or devices used to authenticate documents. These provisions focus on fraudulent authentication rather than traditional intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, copyrights, or patents.
