The Secretary-General of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and, in accordance with the provisions of Article VIII, paragraph (6), of the Additional Act, of November 10, 1972, amending the International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants, signed at Paris on December 2, 1961, has the honor to inform him that, pursuant to Article VI, paragraph (1), the said Additional Act enters into force on
February 11, 1977,
that is, thirty days after the deposit of the last of the instruments of ratification deposited by five-sixths of the member States of UPOV.
In this connection, it is recalled that, of the seven States members of UPOV (the Kingdom of Belgium, the Kingdom of Denmark, the French Republic, Germany (the Federal Republic of), the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Kingdom of Sweden, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), six States deposited instruments of ratification of the said Additional Act, on the following dates:
- January 11, 1973, by the Kingdom of Sweden
- February 8, 1974, by the Kingdom of Denmark
- January 22, 1975, by the French Republic
- July 23, 1976, by Germany (the Federal Republic of)
- November 5, 1976, by the Kingdom of Belgium
- January 12, 1977, by the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Consequently, as provided for in Article VI, paragraph (1) the said Additional Act enters into force, in accordance with Article 27, paragraph (4), of the said Convention, on February 11, 1977, with respect to the said six States.
