The Copyright Act, 2000 repealed the Copyright Ordinance, 1962 and was amended by the Copyright (Amendment) Act 2005 (Act No. 14 of 2005) on May 18, 2005.
According to this Act, copyright registration is voluntary and not obligatory in Bangladesh. The registration establishes evidence of ownership in case of copyright disputes.
The Act is consistent with the Bern Convention and TRIPS Agreement. It contains different provisions relating to computer programs and digital media copyrights, database, rental rights, cinema, broadcasting rights, performer’s rights, phonograms rights, etc.
