Notes This consolidated version of the Federal Act of June 25, 1954, on Patents for Inventions (status as of January 1, 2019) takes into account amendments up to the Federal Act of March 18, 2016, on Amendments to the Federal Act of December 15, 2000, on Medicines and Medical Devices (hereinafter the "Amendment Act of March 18, 2016").

Annex (that regulates Chapter II of the Amendment Act of March 18, 2016) introduces the following amendments, in force since January 1, 2019 (in accordance with para. 1 of Single Article of the Order of September 21, 2018) to this consolidated version of the Federal Act on Patents:
(1) Under First Title entitled "General Provisions", Article 9. 1g and h in Section 1 (inserted); Article 46a.4h in Section 7 (inserted) (relating to exceptions to the effects of the patent in connection with therapeutic freedoms);
(2) Under Seventh Title entitled "Supplementary Protection Certificates", relating to the introduction of supplementary paediatric protection certificates and paediatric extensions:
- Articles 140a.1 and 1bis (inserted); 140b.1b and b (amended); 140e.1 and 3 (amended); 140f.1 (amended); 140i.1c, 2 and 3 (amended); 140l.2 (amended) in Section 1 entitled "Supplementary Protection Certificates for Medicinal Products";
- The entire Section 2 entitled "Extension of the Term of Supplementary Protection Certificates for Medicinal Products" containing Articles 140n to 140s; (amended);
- The entire Section 2a entitled "Paediatric Supplementary Protection Certificates for Medicinal Products" containing Articles 140t to 140y (inserted);
- Section 3 entitled "Supplementary Protection Certificates for Plant Protection Products" containing Article 140z (inserted);
(3) Final Title Final and Transitional Provisions containing Article 149 (inserted).
